RULES

  • Open to all Breeds and sizes of horses/ponies/mules.

  • The organisers reserve the right to scratch, combine and restrict classes should they deem it necessary.

  • If a class is cancelled due to lightning or other weather it will not be rescheduled.

  • All horses must have documentation of an Influenza vaccination within 6 months of the date of the show and of African Horse Sickness vaccination within 24 months of the date of the show.

  • The age of all horses and riders, where applicable, will be calculated from the actual date of birth to the day of the show.

  • Riders under 18 ARE NOT PERMITTED to ride stallions.

  • Stallions are to have a YELLOW tag on their bridle.

  • Horses that kick are to have a RED ribbon in their tail.

  • Hard Hats for Youth under 18 is MANDATORY.

  • EXERCISING OF HORSES: A warm-up arena will be available. No excessive schooling allowed. Exercise should be paced throughout the day to be fair to the horse.

  • SHOW NUMBERS: a new number will be allocated for each show.

  • Several day paddocks and stables will be available but must be booked prior to the event. Please be on the lookout via WhatsApp for details.

  • Horses and riders/handlers who are not in the arena within 2 minutes after the class is called will not be allowed to compete in that class.

  • PETS - NO DOGS ALLOWED

  • ALL competitors/handlers are PROHIBITED from consuming alcohol while competing / showing.

  • Should a horse break-away from its holding pen or handler, the owner of a break-away horse will be fined R250 per break-away. Paddocks and stables are available from venues and need to be arranged by the owner of the horse.

  • Arena etiquette is to be practised at all times. Should any rider not adhere to the rules during the warm-up of reining horses, the rider will be fined R250 for each infringement. See diagram

ANIMAL WELFARE

The welfare of the horse is the primary concern in all activities.

All horses and animals will be treated with kindness, respect, and compassion at all times.

All exhibitors/riders, owners, trainers, grooms and attending family and friends will ensure the well-being and health of the horses in their care at all times while showing, training, handling, treating and transportation.

NO horse shall be given a stimulant, depressant, tranquilliser or sedative which could affect the performance of the horse (stimulant and depressant are defined as substances which stimulate or depress the cardiovascular, respiratory or central nervous system).

The Show Manager reserves the right to ask all persons and accompanying horses to leave the show grounds if any of the above is not strictly adhered to without any notice period.

EXCESSIVE SCHOOLING AND ABUSE IS NOT PERMITTED AND IS DEFINED AS:

- Over spinning (more than 8 consecutive spins at one time in one direction) 

- Jerking on the reins
- Over working a horse to the point the horse sweating excessively
- Excesive spurring

- No whips allowed
- No illegal tack or equipment allowed at any shows - Fencing is PROHIBITED at any shows

VENUES

Venues will be indicated before each show with the show entry form, but are subject to change for various reasons.

Please take note that by entering any of these premises, you agree to fully indemnify the owner of the premises and organiser of any events at the premises, of any and all civil and delictual liability or damages. You further acknowledge that there are domesticated animals, including, but not limited to horses and dogs, present on the premises and confirm that you are aware of the risks of any injury that may be caused by any animal on the premises and agree to indemnify the owner of the premises and organiser of any events on these premises of any and all civil and delictual liability or damages. You acknowledge that this disclaimer shall indemnify the owner and / or organiser of any and all claims of any nature.

NO DOGS are allowed at any of the shows other that that of the owner of the premises.

Minimum venue requirements:

1 x main sand arena at least 30 x 60 meters 1 x warm-up sand arena
10 - 20 available paddocks / stables
2 x toilets

1 x show office/gazebo/shade port with electricity

Ample space for catering
Ample secure parking for cars & horseboxes

DIVISIONS

Adult > 18 

Youth 14 -19 

Youth < 13

Show Management has the right to combine classes if there are less than 3 riders in a division eg. Grass Roots < 13 will be combined with Grass Roots 14 > 19 or Grass Roots 14 - 19 will be combined with Grass Roots Adult > 18.

A rider 18 years can choose to continue in the Youth 14 - 19 division or ride in Adult division. A rider that turns 19 can still ride in Youth for their 19th year.

GRASS ROOTS:

  1. Bits & Spurs : Snaffle Bit or Traditional Bosal (non mechanical). NO Spurs

  2. Hands : Two hands, bridged reins.

  3. Patterns : Simplified Patterns as published.

  4. Paces & Lead changes : Ride as written.

  5. Tack : English GP, Dressage saddles, trail saddles, treeless saddles, Western

    saddles.

  6. Rider Dress : Minimum: Long Sleeve Shirt with collar, Jeans/breeches, boots,

    Hard hat.

 

AMATEUR:

  1. Bits & Spurs : Snaffle Bit or Traditional Bosal (non mechanical), Legal Western

    Curb bit (one hand), Spurs Allowed.

  2. Hands : Two hands with snaffle or Bosal. Curb bit (one Hand).

  3. Patterns : Patterns as written.

  4. Paces & Lead changes : Simple lead changes allowed. Otherwise -

    Standard Judging Rules will apply.

  5. Tack : Trail type saddles, Western saddles.

    “Newbies” English tack allowed but with legal western bit (snaffle or curb bit)

  6. Rider Dress : Minimum: Long Sleeve Shirt with collar, Jeans, boots,

    Stetson (adult) / Hard hat (youth), chaps/chinks.

 

OPEN:

  1. Bits & Spurs : Curb bit (one hand), Spurs Allowed.

  2. Hands : One hand.

  3. Patterns : Patterns as written.

  4. Paces & Lead changes : Standard Judging Rules will apply.

  5. Tack : Full Western Tack ONLY (western saddle with horn).

  6. Rider Dress : Full Western Attire.

BEGINNER REINER

The Beginner Reining Program is specifically designed for riders who are interested in doing reining and have no idea where to start or riders that find the set patterns confusing, difficult,  intimidating or simply a rider who wants to start with the basics before  they decide if reining is for them and their horse.

REINER SCHOOLING

This class is open to anyone who wants to get their horse use to the full show environment without the pressure of competing. It is a training class for the horse and will not be scored. A full reining pattern will be used.

TRAINER NOVICE HORSE

This class is for Trainers only who wish to get a novice horse introduced to the show environment with a basic reining pattern using Green Reiner Rules

NRHA REINING

Green Reiner, Non Pro and Open graded NRHA classes for NRHA members. Bigger shows will also have the Youth division all ridden according to the NRHA rulebook

RANCH RIDING

Ranch Riding is a pattern class , where the riding style is smooth and efficient as if the horse and rider are working on a ranch.

RANCH RAIL PLEASURE

The class whereby horse and rider work at a more natural and forward gaits which are commonly used in ranch work. Most of the work is done on the rail along with all the horses entered into that division.

RANCH TRAIL

The Ranch Trail class is a pattern class designed to exhibit a horse's versatility and willingness to perform tasks that may be encountered on a ranch. Natural appearing obstacles are preferred

RANCH REINING

This is a fun class combining reining and ranch manoeuvres 

RANCHMANSHIP

The purpose of this class is to bring forth the versatility in both the ranch horse and rider, in the task of performing the designated pattern constructed of both Ranch Trail obstacles and Ranch Riding maneuvers.

POINTS

Points are accumulated throughout the 2023 - 2024 show season for the Award Ceremony that will be held at the end of the season to crown the best of the best. The top 4 show points will be used to determine the winners, which means a minimum of 4 shows need to be ridden to qualify.
